Description
The carabao is native to Philippine soils, more so for Nueva Ecija, where it has been used extensively in rice farming for ages. The carabao is known to be a very tough animal in terms of strength and its insusceptibility to disease, hence the term "malakas ka pa sa kalabaw", which connotes robustness and durability. Because it is unaltered by genetic manipulation the carabao, unlike the modern cow, can still thrive without the excessive need for antibiotics and high protein feeds. They too can thrive without the need to use high levels of concentrated feeds. Rice and corn stalks, together with napier and straw make up the bulk of a carabao's diet.
